Hello. My name is George Casler; Grendel Hall, in Nassau NY, is where I live with my wife and my "aged feline" Brandoch Daha.
Many people I know who are my age (63) are considering retirement. I am not. I enjoy being busy and productive; I have confidence in my ability to accomplish a great deal and have evidence that I bring value to whatever enterprise I am involved in.
- writing programmed instruction books;
- reporting, reviewing, and editing for a newspaper;
- developing and delivering courses on computers, programming languages, and computer applications for local colleges and school districts;
- exploring new technologies to find and to report possible classroom applications for the State Education Department;
- programming billing and payment systems for a provider of international telecommunications enterprise support systems; serving as editor for their 36 volumes of documentation, users guides, and administrator manuals;
- creating online help systems for a State agency;
- writing and publishing user and administrator guides for a time and accrual system, a human resources information system, and a learning management system, then delivering training to clients on those systems;
- translating a 12,000-page mission-critical document from Word to FrameMaker for a State agency;
- assisting a State agency in preparing a Request for Proposal for a website redesign;
- coordinating a five-person team in the preparation of deliverable documents for a mission-critical State agency project;
- translating resumes written by people whose native language is not English, but who will add value to employers because of their technical skills, not their writing ability, and
- designing, producing, and delivering marketing materials (including graphics).
In fact, my academic work (B.A. and M.A. — all but thesis) is in Rhetoric and Communication.
