This is were I put the work spurred by the seeds Janee planted in her lessons. There may not be enough time each week to do this, but when there is, this is where the results will be put.
Elephants Like Art, TooThis was pretty simple. I just took the idea of putting other paintings in the frames of a gallery photograph. Instead, I took the window from Frederick Bazille's "Artist's Gallery" and put an elephant behind them. Nothing too spectacular; I just thought it would be cute. |

Playing with ButterfliesThis one took a bit longer. It combines a number of ideas from Lesson 1 with something I learned in From a Blank Canvas. Lesson 1 contributed to vignette, the matting, the edging, and the framing. From a Blank Canvas came the technique to produce this particular edging. From Mahendra Bhatia, I stole the idea of a more complexly developed frame. |
Return to the ClarkThanks to John D's excellent suggestion of introducing adjustment layers over the layer with the pictures, I have been able to tone down the photos so they look like they belong in this kind of gallery. |

Now to the GissonAnd now that I know how to do that, I can reverse the effect on this one. This allows me to make the point even more clearly. What we have in most cases is a photograph of people looking at a group of paintings. With the adjustment layer, I can emphasize that what we have here is a group of painted people looking at photographs. That fits my sense of irony. I think the new color scheme makes it even more obvious that the "camel man" with the red dewrag is checking out the girl holding the program. She, of course, is acting like she doesn't notice. |

I've begun to play with the gradients to make a variety of framing effects, trying to remember the save the gradient after I've actually made a frame with it. So far, I've been 75% successful. Then it occurred to me that I could make the gradient in greyscale and, as long as I want the same hue (with varying tints and shades) I could put a color adjustment layer over the frame and play with that to get all kinds of colored frames out of a single gradient. The results of this experimentation are not yet in, as I just thought of this and haven't done it yet. So, the four frames around this text use color gradients. The one at the bottom is a bit different. When I was in Warrensburg on vacation, there was an art/antiques/framing shop which had an entire wall of framing corners. I took a large number of pictures. The frame at the bottom is a creation from one of the corners. Because of the angle at which I took the picture, the frame isn't exactly square (but in the Adirondacks, there are a lot of things which aren't exactly square). I think it came out pretty good, though. It did take about 45 minutes to get together. |
