Lesson 3

This is gone; it was taking up too much space that I needed for later lessons. If you really want it, email me on the study hall list and I'll zip it and send it to you.

Super Blade Pro, even old Blade Pro "Classic", drives me nuts! So many options, so many combinations and permutations, only one level of Undo! Believe it or not, this page took three hours to do. I'd get the texture right, then the colors would get weird; I'd start working on the colors and the textures would go on holiday. Maybe it's just me, but I like to work toward a particular idea. I'll start with something out of the dice, then want to make it into the idea in my head and the filter seems to struggle against me. Nevertheless, I like it because it provides an infinite variety of things to start with. I open a blank document, fill it with a random Super Blade Pro pattern and go back to Photoshop to make it what I want!!!

Yep, folks, I'm here to admit that I am indeed a Control Freak.

Here's a web set with five navigation buttons (beginning, back, stop, forward, end) and a home button with a background tile. All the pieces are in this ZIP file. The sample, which you'll see by clicking the thumbnail at left, shows the buttons at full size, but I've kept the size to 400x300 px to minimize the download time. The background tile is 25x25 px, so if you use it as your background image it'll tile to whatever size the browser's screen is.

12 layers, 15 presents, 3 gradients. The parrot is finally done -- and, actually, I'm pretty happy with it.

Design a preview image to show preset effects.

I seem to be doing this week's homework backwards. This is being done after I did the organization section. I'm going to start the parrot tonight and probably finish it Wednesday. Anyway, the design follows the guidelines our instructors laid down. I used a large white band at the bottom because frequently I put the SBP pattern on a white background. Also, I included a thin font as well as the recommended fat font because I have found that the effect is often quite different and because I often use thin fonts in my work.

If you want a copy of the preview image, click on the thumbnail at left. If all goes according to plan, you'll get a ZIP copy of the .psd file. The color band is in channel 4 (cmd-alt-4); the fonts and ornaments band is channel 5 (cmd-alt-5) and the white band is channel 6 (cmd-alt-6).

Demonstrate preset collection organization method. I collected a large number of presets over a year ago, but didn't have a real plan for what to do with them or how to select what I wanted. Therefore, I'm extremely grateful to our instructors for providing me with an organizational method. These are up here just to provide an indication of the variety of effects which can be achieved. They'll only be here for a week (I'll run out of geocities space; this is only a small part of a much larger site, which is used by many people).

If you want any of the presets, email the Study Hall at Yahoo and I'll try to send them in a form that Windows can use. At this point, I'm unable to guarantee that it'll work, but I will guarantee to try. (This offer is not valid for the ones available from other class member; those are them ones with high numbers -- over 589.)
