Lesson 3

Demonstrate competence in copying, pasting (and maybe flipping) gradient sections in KPT5.

Doing the assignment was not a problem. I miss the numerical indicators for the brackets that were available in KPT3; their absence made precision in selection more difficult. Precision was also hindered until I figured out that I could turn off the "Feather" option; after that, there was less grumbling. It was also frustrating not to be able to save the names with the gradients I created; they kept returning as "New". Any suggestions?

Apply one of the standard presets that comes with KPT5 Shapeshifter to a selection and post to the web page. Make 3 different shapes with different presets using the stock presets that came with your KPT.

Then create 3 of your own presets to share with the class. Apply them to a couple different shaped buttons, banners or whatever you like to see what different effects you can achieve.

Next, use one of another student's preset that has been sent to the email list or grab ours here and apply it to a selected shape.

Well, as usual, I got carried away. I made six of my own. As of this writing, nobody has saved presets for me to download, so I can't do that. But by downloading presets from other places on the web and using them, I think I've demonstrated that I can download and install Shapeshifter presets.

Create your own chrome for the outline of the car that we have made to color, save the preset and post to the webpage in a zip along with the rest of the presets you used on the car image. Color your car and add any accessories that you like to the car using ONLY the KPT filters.

Unfortunately, the PSP format did not translate well into Photoshop. So I dug out an old clip art picture of a car and worked with that. Also, another platform-specific program was chosen for the traffic light portion of the lesson, so I can't use that particular program. I know I've got GIFAnimator around here somewhere, but it's not right at hand and I don't feel like looking for it, so I'll just color in the lights and leave the animation for some other time.

Create your Teddy Bear as you follow the lessons. Open the Dice image in the zip you downloaded for the lessons and make some fuzzy dice to hang in your (KPT 5 Shape Shifter) car using the KPT Fiber Optix Filter. Post all assignments to your web page or send to the email list. Be sure to post the URL to the board so that the Instructors can view your work.

You know by now that the dice are with the previous assignment. Nobody seems to be able to find the bear in the download, so I chose another furry beast to follow along with the lesson. I added a few extra goodies on this page, too.
